Quiz Night

For the new SACE, Year 10 students have to pass a subject called Personal Learning Plan. For this we have to set ourselves a citizenship goal. I (Georgia Strobel) decided that I would like to do more fundraising for charities. I had to decide how I would do this. I chose to organise a quiz night to raise money for Oxfam Australia.

The Quiz Night will be held at Brougham Place Uniting Church hall on Saturday 17th July at 7.00 for a 7:30 pm start. There will be a silent auction as well.

It would be great if you could come and support this event. Tickets cost $10.00. To book individual tickets or tables (of 10) please see Georgia Strobel or contact the church office.

All profits are going to Oxfam Australia.

Experiencing the Bible Again for the First Time - 10 Week Bible Study

Marcus Borg wrote a fantastic book called, Reading the Bible for the First Time Again. Borg calls for "Adult Theological Re-education" and encourages us to go back and read the bible again, or for the first time with fresh eyes. In a 10 week study we will be guided by Borg's book and come together to discuss questions like how do we understand the bible today, what does it mean to read the bible in a contemporary way, how do we respect tradition and reality as we read the bible? Where? 10am at the Church or 7pm at the manse When? Every Tuesday for 10 weeks beginning August 3rd How much? $40 includes the book Reading the Bible for the First Time Again and the study guide "Experiencing the Bible for the First Time Again". Many inside and outside the church are searching for an enlightened, contemporary way to be believers and to appreciate the profound richness of the Bible. Consider inviting a friend to join you on this journey of discovery as we ask how do we read the bible in a way that doesn't compromise what we know about ourselves and the world. Expressions of interest to Jenni or John.
