Call to Worship
We sing: Jesus Calls Us Here to Meet Him
Jesus calls us here to meet him
as, through word and song and prayer,
we affirm God’s promised presence
where his people live and care.
Praise the God who keeps his promise;
praise the Son who calls us friends;
praise the Spirit who, among us,
to our hopes and fears attends.
Jesus calls us to confess him
Word of Life and Lord of All,
sharer of our flesh and frailness
saving all who fail or fall.
Tell his holy human story;
tell his tales that all may hear;
tell the world that Christ in glory
came to earth to meet us here.
Jesus calls us to each other:
found in him are no divides.
Race and class and sex and language
such are barriers he derides.
Join the hand of friend and stranger;
join the hands of age and youth;
join the faithful and the doubter
in their common search for truth.
Jesus calls us to his table
rooted firm in time and space,
where the Church in earth and heaven
finds a common meeting place.
Share the bread and wine, his body;
share the love of which we sing;
share the feast of saints and sinners
hosted by our Lord and King.

Anthem: Day By Day

Scripture Reading: Luke 5: 1-11
Once while Jesus was standing beside the Lake of Gennesaret and the
crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he saw two boats
there at the shore of the lake; the fishermen had gotten out of them and
were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging
to Simon, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then he
sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. When he had finished
speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and let down
your nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we have worked all
night long but have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down
the nets.” When they had done this, they caught so many fish that their
nets were beginning to burst. So they signaled their partners in the
other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats,
so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at
Jesus’s knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!”
For he and all who were with him were astounded at the catch of fish
that they had taken, and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee,
who were partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be
afraid; from now on you will be catching people.” When they had brought
their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him.
May the Spirit of God open our eyes to see, our ears to hear,
and our hearts to understand.
Message
We sing: Jesus calls us o’er the tumult
Jesus calls us! O’er the tumult
of our life’s wild restless sea,
day by day his voice is sounding,
saying, ‘Christian, follow me’:
as, of old, Saint Andrew heard it
by the Galilean lake,
turned from home and toil and kindred,
leaving all for his dear sake.
Jesus calls us from the worship
of the vain world’s golden store,
from each idol that would keep us, saying,
‘Christian, love me more.’
In our joys and in our sorrows,
days of toil and hours of ease,
still he calls, in cares and pleasures,
‘Christian, love me more than these.’
Jesus calls us! By your mercies,
Saviour, may we hear your call,
give our hearts to your obedience,
serve and love you best of all.

Prayers of the People
Come to us, God, just as we are, just as you are. Meet us in our homes,
help us to keep our love on, dress us with patience and kindness, make
our homes warm, sparking with your joy and intimacy. We pray for anyone
who is not safe in their own home tonight and for those without places
to call a home; make a way for better situations, however you can,
loving God.
Come to us, God, just as we are, just as you are. Be with us in places
of play, bring lightness and laughter into our experience, spread your
joy into all the world. We pray for all those who cannot find rest, for
those for whom play is a luxury, for those who are wearied and burdened,
for those who are sick and struggling. Bring rest and healing and peace,
however you can, generous God.
Come to us, God, just as we are, just as you are. Be with us in our
places of work and toil. Look after the shift-workers, and all those
pulling long days or nights to make ends meet. Ease the pressures so
many are facing, release debts, open up new chances, and let care and
generosity spill over to wherever it is needed, however you can, caring
God.
Come to us, God,
just as we are, just as you are,
however you can. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
And now with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us saying…
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.
