Why is the banner on the fence?
The PROTECT CREATION Fossil Fuel Treaty Now banner was displayed on the fence at the start of Lent.
It was timely to do this in Lent as the Uniting World’s annual appeal LentEvent invited us to take 40 days of faith-filled action for God’s creation. www.unitingworld.org.au
Part of the action taken by Brougham Place Uniting Church was the displaying of the banner to show that
- we care for God’s wonderful creation, and
- we respond to the impact of the changing climate on the planet, and on the people.
The banner will remain on the fence for two weeks after Easter.
This coincides with the lead up to the federal election because we are joining with other Christian communities calling for urgent climate action.
“As followers of Christ, we are called to be bold in love, relentless in justice, and unwavering in our hope for a better world. The Uniting Church has always stood for a society where all people can flourish—where justice is lived, creation is cherished, and every person is treated with dignity and respect. We are guided by a vision of God’s kingdom—a vision rooted in justice, reconciliation, and peace.”
President of the Uniting Church in Australia, Rev Charissa Suli
