Call to Worship

Come, lean in, Jesus is here – the one who opens up worlds for us with stories of God’s love and generosity. Let us come hungry and curious – ready to be surprised by Divine Grace
Grow your seeds of hope among us, Jesus,
that beautiful life might rise in ways we never expected.

Come, let us worship together.

Opening Prayer

We sing: The Lord’s Prayer`

Refrain:
Our Father
Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Repeat

Give us this day our daily bread
Forgive our trespasses
As we forgive them who trespass against us
Forgive us our trespasses

Refrain:
Our Father
Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven

Oh Lord lead us not into temptation
But save us from evil
And the kingdom, the power
And the glory forever
Will be Yours

Refrain:
Our Father
Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Repeat

We sing: For Everyone Born

  1. For everyone born, a place at the table,
    for everyone born, clean water and bread;
a shelter, a space, a safe place for growing,
for everyone born, a star overhead.

    Refrain:
And God will delight when we are creators of justice
    and joy, compassion and peace:
yes God will delight when we are creators of justice,
    justice and joy.

  2. For woman and man, a place at the table,
    revising the roles, deciding the share;
with wisdom and grace dividing the power,
for woman and man, a system that’s fair.

    Refrain:
And God will delight when we are creators of justice
    and joy, compassion and peace:
yes God will delight when we are creators of justice,
    justice and joy.

  3. For young and for old, a place at the table,
a voice to be heard, a part in the song,
the hands of a child in hands that are wrinkled,
for young and for old, the right to belong.

    Refrain:
And God will delight when we are creators of justice
    and joy, compassion and peace:
yes God will delight when we are creators of justice,
    justice and joy.

  4. For just and unjust a place at the table,
for prisoner and free, with need to forgive,
in anger, in hurt, a mindset of mercy,
for just and unjust, a new way to live.

    Refrain:
And God will delight when we are creators of justice
    and joy, compassion and peace:
yes God will delight when we are creators of justice,
    justice and joy.

  5. For everyone born, a place at the table,
to live without fear, and simply to be,
to work, to speak out to witness and worship,
for everyone born, the right to be free.

    Refrain:
And God will delight when we are creators of justice
    and joy, compassion and peace:
yes God will delight when we are creators of justice,
    justice and joy.

Scripture Reading: Mark 4:26-34

He also said, ‘The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter seed on the ground, and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed would sprout and grow, he does not know how. The earth produces of itself, first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head. But when the grain is ripe, at once he goes in with his sickle, because the harvest has come.’

He also said, ‘With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.’

With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it; he did not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything in private to his disciples.

Offering Prayer

God of goodness, it is easy to think that the smallness of our lives and our resources can do little in a huge world of pain and brokenness, but your words tell us it is not true. Even what we give here, even the giving of our time and energy shapes the world for good.
Amen.

Prayers of the People

We sing: For You Deep Stillness

For you, deep stillness of the silent inland;
for you, deep blue of the desert skies;
for you, flame red of the rocks and stones;
for you, sweet water from hidden springs.

From the edges, seek the heartlands,
and when you’re burnt by the journey,
may the cool winds of the hovering Spirit
soothe and replenish you.
In the name of Christ,
In the name of Christ.

Sending Forth and Benediction

Go now, holding on to God’s special, beautiful love for you. The same God who knows and cares for all the birds holds all the details of your life as important and sacred. This God is always close to you, caring for you, willing the good in your life and in the lives of others – even in those times where we feel crushed or driven into the ground.

You are a seed of love and God sees to it that our little seeds grow into something beautiful – something so beautiful that it helps create places where everyone can belong, where all can find the rest and inspiration they need to carry God’s seeds of love into all the world. Go now with the peace, love, and hope that God has given you.
Amen

Postlude

Come and share morning tea together, in the basement. There are stairs behind the organ and a ramp between the church and the car park. All are welcome!
