Remembering The Merton Prayer
Some days,
Feeling uncertain,
The road ahead is clouded.
A mystery.
What light at tunnel’s end?
What friend along the roadside?
Rumbling of the distant clouds
Pierced with faraway streams of light.
God’s will be done?
Discerned to be what?
We must wait.
Just wait.
Though waiting is hard.
No perfect plan.
Just trust
That we are never alone,
Even when feeling disconnected.
We are listening
For that knock
On the door of our hearts.
When we least expect.
That quiet whisper.
All the more precious
After seeming absent.
And then we remember.
You are ever with us.
We are never alone.
