Church Building Restoration

“Generations have cared for this beloved building and now we, too, take up our part in upholding the gift we have inherited.”

Thank you

Thank you for considering supporting the restoration of the Brougham Place Church building. For close to 165 years this building has stood proudly as part of Adelaide’s architectural landscape. This building has witnessed celebrations and brought comfort in times of grief. With its beauty, it has offered sanctuary to many and with its open doors, it has offered community to all.

Generations have cared for this beloved building and now we, too, take up our part in upholding the gift we have inherited.

Thank you for considering your part in upholding the past and shaping the future.

Grace and peace,
Jörg, Dave, Helen, Ian and Linda
on behalf of the Brougham Place Uniting Church Community

A place of Worship, A place of Community

Brougham Place Church opened in 1861. It was built on two different kinds of foundation. After many years, the building is now twisting and moving, resulting in significant cracking. This movement has also led to the need for roof repairs. The nature of the building and its age also means that salt damp repairs are required.

Each of these elements have been costed. We seek to raise $500,000.

This is a vibrant, energized, compassionate community and we believe that this historic building offers grace, welcome, care and compassion, sharing God’s love with all the world. With your help, this building will stand tall.

The Repairs

  1. Underpinning
  2. Cracking
  3. Salt Damp

Make a Bequest to Brougham Place by adding to your Will

A bequest is a gift detailed in your will. It can be as little or as large as you want. It can be a monetary amount, a percentage of your estate, or the balance of your estate (after your estate has made provision for family, friends, and other specific considerations).
We recommend seeking advice from your solicitor on making or updating your will. Here is an example of suitable wording for bequests:

I give and bequeath … (description of gift, eg specific amount or percentage of estate or balance of estate) to The Uniting Church in Australia Property Trust (S.A.)

a) for the use and benefit of Brougham Place Uniting Church, 196 Brougham Place, North Adelaide
b) for the purpose of the Brougham Place Uniting Church Building Fund
c) If this gift cannot take effect for any reason, for the use and benefit
of such congregation, foundation, institution, council, committee, department, college, board or agency of the Uniting Church in Australia as The Uniting Church in Australia Property Trust (S.A.) considers most nearly fulfils the charitable purposes I intend to benefit.
