The Church
Brougham Place Uniting Church is a magnificent heritage building, designed by architect Edmund Wright and built in 1859.
Located within minutes of the city centre, graced by parks, with Italian marble stairs rising to the entrance, it has become a much sought after church for couples wanting to celebrate their marriage in a grand and historic setting. This church is chosen by approximately 40 couples a year.
The Procedure
The office secretary will be pleased to offer information and a guided tour of the Church to assist you in choosing Brougham Place for your Wedding Celebration.
After deciding on Brougham Place as a potential venue for your wedding, it is advisable to call the church office and check on the availability of the date you have chosen. We can have more than one wedding on a day, however our policy is to schedule weddings at least two hours apart. A tentative booking can be taken over the phone, ensuring that the date you have chosen is secured immediately. A booking form is then sent out to you and once your final decision is made, the completed form should be returned to the office as soon as possible. A deposit of $150 secures the booking.
Meeting the Minister
The first meeting with the Minister should take place as soon as possible after the confirmation of your booking. At this initial meeting opportunity will be given to establish a connection; fill in initial forms and discuss your overall plan for the Wedding. The minister will talk with you about future meetings that will enable you to discuss the Order of Service for the wedding, complete the Pre-Marriage Course "Prepare" and fulfill the Legal requirements. At one of these meetings you will need to produce a copy of your Birth Certificates and in the case of prior marriages, a copy of the Dissolution certificate.
The Order Of Service
The Wedding Celebration will be shaped to reflect you as a couple. The Order of Service booklet provides options for readings, vows, and music. The minister will go through the booklet with you and you will be able to take it away and plan your service together. This allows for tailoring the service to reflect you as a couple. The involvement in the Celebration of Family and friends who may share readings, music etc will be encouraged so that the Worship will best reflect you as a couple.
The Rehearsal
The final meeting prior to your wedding day, will be at a rehearsal/walk through. Generally this happens on the Thursday evening prior to the wedding. It is recommended that all members of the wedding party, and others involved in the ceremony, attend the rehearsal. Details will be arranged with the Minister.
