Reflections 7 Dec 2003
2nd Sunday of Advent
Prepare the Way
The first week of December has arrived. Preparations for Christmas are in full swing - buying gifts, sending cards, making special food, and decorating our houses and workplaces. We welcome people into our homes and receive a welcome from others.
Amidst the hustle and bustle of the season are we giving ourselves the time to welcome, or even recognise, God who comes to us?
We may discover God in the still small voice of the wind rustling the leaves of the gum trees …
in the beauty of a sunrise …
in the laughter of a child …
in the stories of the elderly …
in the face of a stranger passing by …
God will find us in the ordinariness of our everyday lives – as we work, play, and spend time with the ones we love. God will find us in the excitement of special celebrations. But we have to be open to the possibility of an encounter with God before we are able to recognise these times as God moments.
Jesus whose birth we celebrate at Christmas brings us a message of hope. God is with us.
- Where do you find God?
- What is your response to the God you encounter?
